Devon UK
Rural Glamping

Sleeps 2-3 (a double bed and option of extra single air bed added)

This pitch is perched on the hillside, overlooking the lake and Haldon Forest beyond. It’s conveniently located close to car park 2 and the toilet/shower block.

This secluded slice of Devon countryside is tucked at the bottom of a big hill below the A380, so avoids the need of endless country lanes for access, but is equally tucked away from road noise.

This lovely location is part of a peaceful rural Devon working farm close to beaches and the moors, and it’s a place that’s all about relaxed stays – think lake views, woodland walks and a stream flowing down to a lake that connects to the river below. Unsurprisingly, it’s a bit of a wildlife haven too, and you may well spot glow worms and bats at night thanks to minimal (solar) lighting around the site.

The surroundings may be pleasingly wild here but the accommodation certainly isn’t – in fact, the bell tents are rather smart, with a real double bed made up ready for your arrival and all sorts of creature comforts including bunting, fairy lights, a pair of lanterns/power banks, matts, and much more to create a cosy atmosphere. Tables and chairs are supplied under the awning too, along with an additional seating area and firepit/barbecue (just the place to settle down for an evening tending the grill while you admire the views…)

There’s plenty of space here too, with 9 pitches set well apart in a 2.5-acre meadow. A toilet/shower block (with hot water,) outdoor tap/ bike wash station and bins area are clustered together, close to hand. Elsewhere around the site you can wander off to meet the horses and it’s an easy walk to access several miles of forest trail (leading to local pubs if you wish).

Check in and out:

Check-in anytime after 3 pm.

Please be checked out by 11 am on the day of departure.

Dogs:

We welcome well behaved dogs ON LEADS, and supply each pitch with a corkscrew ground anchor (to be found in a wooden wine box within the tent) for tethering your dog.

BREEDS: Please note that this site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa. If found with such dogs, you will be asked to leave immediately, with no refunds given.

If you are found to not pick up your dogs mess or there is extra cleaning required in your tent, you will lose your deposit.

No dogs on the bed/bedding. No dogs in the shower/toilet trailer please.

Groups:

As a general rule, we do not accept bookings for large adult-only groups. Our site caters for couples and families. We will consider group bookings for certain workshops and retreats, but these need to be organised with prior agreement from management.

Access:

  • Our site is located on a steep slope (with levelled pitches) at the bottom of a steep farm track (with loose stone in parts.)
  • Not suitable for those with limited mobility.
  • No cars/motorbikes by the pitches. All cars must be parked in designated (clearly signed) parking spaces.
  • For 4×4 owners and braver drivers, there’s parking very close to pitches. For those less confident behind the wheel (or with cars with low ground clearance,) access from the top car park involves a 200-metre walk down a steep track, which can be slippery at times (wheelbarrows are provided for your gear.)

Damage deposits:

£50.00 damage/cleanliness deposit is required prior to arrival and will be refunded on departure after inspection of your unit, should no damage/losses be found.

Safety / Children:

  • Please note there is a small lake, multiple ponds, a stream and a river on-site. The site includes steep and sometimes uneven terrain.
  • Swimming in the lake is not allowed.
  • No naked flames are allowed inside the tents.
  • The track is steep and can be loose and slippery. Guests are advised to bring closed toe shoes and a torch, as parts of the site are unlit.
  • You are responsible for your own safety and for the safety of any children within your party. Under 18’s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.
  • At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.
  • The site is on a working farm and there are lots of horses around.
  • Management accepts no responsibility for slips, trips and falls.

General Info:

There are never more than 10 pitches in the 2.5 acre field (even on a busy summer holiday weekend), so there is plenty of space. Bell tents are spaced a minimum of 10 metres apart from one another, for your privacy.

If you have friends/family that would like to join, message us well in advance and we’ll aim to arrange you to stay in pitches close to one another.

The tents are self check-in, but good signage and a site map should enable you to find your pitch on your own.

We provide a contact number for any inquiries and there is typically someone on-site in case of emergencies.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Water: We have mains drinking water available both in the sinks inside our toilet/shower trailer and at two outdoor taps.

Parking:

We have 3 car parks dotted down the hill (down a steep farm track) and additional overflow parking at the bottom. Car Park 1 is located near the top of the hill.

4×4 owners and confident drivers (of cars with decent ground clearance:) please continue downhill to Naturally Glamping Car Parks 2 & 3.

If you’re not a confident driver, if your car sits very low to the ground or if you don’t have adequate breakdown cover, please stop at Car Park 1!!!

If Car Park 1 is full, please park further up the hill.

If you don’t drive a 4×4, please consider the following questions carefully before deciding to drive beyond Car Park 1:

Are you a confident driver? Do you have adequate breakdown cover if you get stuck? *

Do you have reasonable ground clearance under your car?

If the answer to any of these questions is no, please do not process beyond Car Park 1.

If unsure, please park in Car Park 1 and go ahead on foot to scope it out. It’s approx 150m walk down a steep track from Car Park 1 to Car Park 2 and about a further 100m to car Park 3. The tent pitches are all located between Car Park 2 and 3, in the bottom field. We scatter wheelbarrows throughout the site. Maybe load a wheelbarrow with your stuff in case you wish to continue on foot.

Please note there’s only space for 1 car per pitch. Please send vehicle reg number before arrival. If you plan on bringing more than 1 vehicle, please contact in advance and we will do our best to accommodate you. At busy times, this may involve advising you of off-site possibilities, from where you’ll have to arrange a shuttle from someone else in your party.

* If you get stuck, we will assist you if and when we can, but we run a small campsite and we don’t have staff available 24/7 to provide immediate support.

For 4×4 owners and braver drivers, there’s parking very close to pitches. For the rest, access from the main car park involves a 200-metre walk down a steep track, which can be slippery at times (wheelbarrows are provided for your gear.) Not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

The tents can squeeze another single bed in too, if you have a 3rd person (at a small extra fee).
